First bagel bakery to open in Montreal, this family institution was born in 1919. At the beginning, this shop was set up at the back of a lane on St. Laurent Blvd. For over 30 years, people trekked down to "The Main", to the little bagel bakery at the back of the lane, to hand pick their golden brown bagels, which were baked to perfection. It was there that Montrealers were introduced to the Bagel, rolled by hand and baked in a wood-fired oven.
Following the traditions and recipes that made them famous, Fairmount Bagel Bakery offers a large variety of bagels that are introduced only once the original quality standards of texture and consistency can be reached.
We now have 18 varieties of bagel, 6 of those varieties are made with organic whole wheat flour. All of our other bagels are made with unbleached four.
So come down and see how bagels were made when your grandparents ate them. You'll be biting into history when you get bagels at The Original Fairmount Bagel Bakery!
Winner of Montreal Gazette Bagel Contest December 9, 2006; voted #1 Best bagel over all other bagel bakeries by a panel of 6 judges. Fairmount Bagel voted the Best Bagel of all time in the city of Montreal and Toronto in National Post.In its June 2007 issues's "Canada's 30 Best", Reader's Digest voted the bagel of Fairmount Bagel best in Canada.
